Yesterday I had an introductory session to Singlish, the local English dialect. From what I understand, it seems to be a bit of a "chinese way" of speaking and forming sentences with the help of mostly English, but also Chinese and Malay words. That is, tenses are hardly used, sentences are cut short and often miss a verb or other essential parts. When speaking, many locals tend to cut long words into their syllables and streeeeetch them out with a chinese tone. Sounds pretty cool!
Wanna try? Here are a few expressions I copied from the handout I received:

Hah? Can repeat or not? meaning: I beg your pardon?
Moving house - so jia lat! meaning: Moving is very troublesome.
Aiyah, this project damn tau tia. meaning: This project is very difficult.
Too bad that knowing a little of how people speak doesn't help to understand all the strange chinese signs ;-)
